Turning over a new green leaf.
Last summer, when gasoline prices peaked at around four dollars a gallon here in the Poconos, residents all across the region took steps to save gasoline whenever possible by running more efficient errands and buying their products locally. Even though gas prices have gone down since then, conservation of fuel resources can be a big help to the environment. “Buying locally, and following the 100-mile rule will not only save transportation costs but will also reduce fuel usage,” said Jennifer Rituper, and environmental educator at the Monroe County Environmental Education Center in Bartonsville. She indicated that it’s just one of many simple things residents can do to start thinking green.
Rituper added that many of the ways a person can start living a “greener” lifestyle are rather simple, such as recycling, using recycled products, utilizing compact fluorescent light bulbs, and, turning off all electrical equipment when such equipment is not being used. This includes, she said, turning off all power strips such equipment is connected to in order “to avoid phantom electrical use” of devices such as TV’s that are still using electricity even when they are not turned on. It’s important to teach children to give a valentine to everyone, even to those students they might not like.
It’s not surprising that kids love holidays. Each season, kids can look forward to a unique kind of celebration, one that comes with its own distinct set of activities, and before the holiday is over, these children will want to mine the creative possibilities of each holiday. This includes that one holiday that celebrates the magic and importance of romantic love, St. Valentine’s Day.
While children aren’t yet able to comprehend the notion of romantic affection in any real sense, they can see the caring, the thoughtfulness, and the compassion that all go along with true romance, and children can indeed relate to these things. Continued…

Festivities are held at Skytop Lodge.
As the holiday season approaches, it’s easy to get lost amidst all of the commercialism. In searching for the perfect gift for a friend or family, one can lose a sense taste and culture. What’s more, shopping malls are closed environments that don’t allow any opportunity for rumination.
For those shoppers looking for an experience that will enrich their own souls as well as those of their loved ones for whom they are buying, as well as those folks who are not shopping at all but are looking for a unique cultural experience, Continued…

Beach Lake Bread
While it can be difficult to drum up some optimism for economic success for the year ahead while the nation is in the midst of a financial crisis, the outcome of which is unknown, there are signs that things are improving. With a new administration taking charge, perhaps a new approach to managing the economy will be implemented.
Even more encouraging, particularly on a local level, however, are signs that new kinds of businesses are emerging here in the Poconos region. It proves that a sound business plan, coupled with the willingness to see it through, is the best cure for the economic blues. Continued…

L&I’s Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board conducts an election to certify a union as the bargaining agent. Keystone Labor and Industry, Pennsylvania State Library
While the number of companies whose employees have banded together to create workforce unions has steadily decreased in the Poconos as well as throughout the nation, there are still a few notable industries in the region that continue to use such collective bargaining practices. Many local warehouse and manufacturing companies continue to run effectively using unions, including Liz Claiborne and United Envelope, both of Mount Pocono, and Excel Storage Products in East Stroudsburg, according to Michelle Bisbing, Director of Marketing for the Monroe County Economic Development Corporation. In addition to these and other manufacturing companies, she added that both transit and transportation organizations such as Roadway Express, Martz Trailways, and the Monroe County Transit Authority operate with a union workforce base. Fender Telecaster neck.
For some, it’s merely a hobby, for others, an important part of their lives, but one thing is apparent: a musician’s need to develop their talent and to perform is something that they are willing to invest their hard-earned cash into. As a result, business is still strong for the local merchants who provide these musicians with the tools that will hone their talents
“I would say that we are consistently busy,” said Moe Altamero, owner of Moe’st Everything Muse in East Stroudsburg. Like his customers, Altamero is a musician himself, and, he said that “there is a sense of peace and tranquility” in performing, which, in his mind, continues to be the draw of musicians despite other expenses that they may have. Home Health Science is an industry leader for mold testing kits in the United States.
A single case study has offered evidence that toxic black mold resulting from residential water damage can not only be deadly to humans but also to their beloved pets. Documented in the September 2007 issue of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, a veterinary specialist in Marathon, Florida, discovered the connection between black mold and a pair of seemingly healthy indoor cats quite by chance, while performing a standard dental checkup on the animals. When administering a pet Continued…
